Signal desktop security12/10/2023 “Research by Royal Holloway recently found vulnerabilities in the cryptography used by Telegram. “Telegram has a reputation as a secure messaging app but this is largely due to the feature set it offers rather than the strong encryption”, explained Dr. Telegram has a more trustworthy reputation than WhatsApp and offers more features than Signal, but this has earned the app some unsavoury users. WhatsApp has recently come under criticism for attempting to expand the amount of data shared with Facebook”. “WhatsApp is safe in that it uses the same secure encryption as Signal but is owned by Facebook – a company which has historically monetised personal information (principally for advertising). “Out of the three apps, Signal has the best reputation for security and privacy using published encryption that has been thoroughly scrutinised and without any incentive to capture your personal information”, said Searchlight Security CTO and co-founder, Dr. So, how does Signal compare to other popular messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram? “While the platform requires your mobile number to sign up, you can set this up using a Google voice number, while Apple users can stop their history from syncing with the cloud by turning off ‘show calls in recents’ in settings”, added Demetriades. There are also options for users who don’t want to connect their Signal account with their personal phone number or iCloud history. “Essentially, it encodes your message so that only the intended recipient’s device can unlock it”. “Signal is safe to use, mainly because it provides end-to-end encryption, which means messages are secured before they’re sent, and they are decrypted only once they arrive at the intended recipient’s device”, explained McAfee VP Antony Demetriades. Unlike Telegram, which also benefits from end-to-end encryption in its “secret chats”, Signal has the feature enabled by default so you won’t have to take any additional steps to get this extra layer of privacy. Signal is safer than many messaging apps because it uses end-to-end encryption, which ensures that no one (not even Signal) can intercept and read your messages. Finally, don’t forget to check out our ultimate security guide to learn the best ways to safeguard your data when surfing the web. We reached out to security experts from McAfee, Searchlight Security, F-Secure, Comparitech and IDC to learn more about Signal, how the apps handles your data and how it’s encryption compares to other popular messaging apps on the market.įor more on messaging apps and your privacy, make sure to visit our guides to WhatsApp and Telegram, along with our more in-depth comparison of Signal vs Telegram. Signal is considered an independent non-profit, meaning its development is supported entirely by grants and donations and it isn’t funded by any major tech company or advertisers. Signal even designed face coverings that would “encrypt your face” in the real world to maintain its users’ privacy outside the app. In 2020, the company released a face blurring tool to protect the identities’ of protestors in the marches against racism and police brutality. Of course, encryption isn’t the only privacy tool in Signal’s arsenal.

Wunderlist vs any.do vs todoist12/10/2023 After finding Astrid I thought I was set for life. Meh: no mehs encountered in my three months with Todoist. Love: design, color-coded projects, task specification, karma, statistics, daily e-mails The advantages over Wunderlist are mainly a nicer design, better task specification (add tasks that repeat *after* x days as well as *every* x days), productivity statistics, a very cool karma graph and pretty colors for different projects. At first I was a bit scared that I would need to shell out for a premium account to take full advantage of this system, but after some months I’m still perfectly happy with the free version. So there I was, happily minding my own productivity with Wunderlist, when a certain cpbotha lured me into the beautiful and productive world of Todoist. I don’t really like the design and I can’t add tasks that repeat *after* x days instead of *every* x days (there is a difference!) Todoist Meh: I have found nothing to meh about so far! update: by now I have. Love: sharing, smart lists, simplicity, customization, subtasks, pretty colors, karma, The Pro accounts offer more functionality for teams and extra background options and aren’t a necessity. Smart lists (hidden if nothing is there to be shown in them), a smooth and extremely simple and snappy interface that syncs well on both the web and phone and customization options. When the Astrid news came out, Wunderlist jumped in to rescue the helpless ex-Astrid users. Wunderlist was reborn recently as Wunderlist 2 and is now native on Mac, iPhone, iPad, Web, Android and Windows PC. What it lacks in the cuteness department, it definitely makes up for in functionality. Meh: Yahoo takeover Wunderlist Wunderlist… Yea, uh, cute star you have there? Love: smart task adding, extensive repeating tasks options, squid, reminders, interaction, motivation So why am I past-tensing this description? Yahoo bought Astrid and it’s hinted that it will no longer be available in its current form soon. Entering a task like ‘Vacuum cleaning after 3 days’ meant that the task would automatically be re-scheduled 3 days after completion. All the necessary features were entirely free and I happily used Astrid for tasks at home and at work. In the Android app, the squid personally reminds you what needs to be done and praises you when you complete tasks. One of the things I enjoyed most about this was not just the standard cool features you come to know and love of many task managers, but the notifications and reminders. Once the most popular task manager on Lifehacker this cute squid once managed all my tasks for me after I left RTM behind. Meh: crazy high subscription fee and severely disfunctional phone apps without it Astrid Astrid the squid could not be any cuter! Love: e-mail reminders, smart task adding, tags That’s when I found out that with a free account, you are only allowed to sync once a day! Fine, I thought, I’ll go premium… As it turns out, that’s 25 dollars…. When I got an Android smartphone, I was excited to get the RTM app so I could check off my tasks anywhere. It has a nice and clean interface and many repeating task options. Back then, I mainly used it for repeating house chores. This was the first list keeping application I ever used. Oh RTM and your little cow favicon ( I might have mentioned this before), how I used to love you. Remember the Milk Cute RTM cow favicon in action I’ll summarize my love, feelings of meh and other assorted ramblings for Remember the Milk, Astrid and Wunderlist and Todoist below. So let’s get started with the list comparison (lol). I’m by no means a GTD-fan, but I do enjoy a good AutoFocus FV session (I’ll write a blog on that technique next) and lists in general. If there’s anything I love doing, it’s making To-do lists and if there’s another thing I really love it’s finding cool apps that help me get stuff done. A blog post topic that has been ironically lingering on my To-do list for some time is a comparison of task managers I’ve been using over the years: Remember the Milk (RTM), Astrid, Wunderlist and Todoist. Reddit ai war 2 vs 112/10/2023 Their lack on the map severely distorts planning of operations. The same as with roads - yes, there are abstracted but once again - bridges were very crucial objectives for many operations (Market Garden, anyone?). None of it is represented on the map, which is wildly unrealistic. Roads restrict movement in certain directions. Yes, there is an abstracted road density, and I’m sure it’s enough for the strategic level wargame, but for an operational wargame roads are a must. "Casuals" are never going to buy it anyway. I don't think by any measure of game design that WITE or WITE2 are "well designed games" - excellent "simulations", yes, but as games.no, closer to work :-)Įxactly the same game, but a nice UI that manages the detail well, rather than makes the game evenr harder, would attract a few thousand more to buy it. There will be fewer developers (charging more, of course) than ever, which is the position we are in. Elitism, basically.More worrying than making the games more accesible to people, is that wargaming (especially the hex'n'counter) side is fading away. And ultimately, I'm thinking that this inaccesibility is part of the appeal. Once I saw that this is exactly what WITE2 did, it's a "no buy" from me.I'm in software development, including technical writing and in my opinion - and that of other very experienced writers commenting on Steam - the manual is awful too. Also on Matrix forums where developers agree on suggested GUI improvements - then completely ignore them and just add in more detail, more units and so on, makign even more of a bloated mess. The details of the GUI problems would take a multi-page article in themselves - I've put some bits and pieces in various posts around here. I would love to play it, but the GUI on Grigsby games just frustrates. I have WITE1 but not WITE2 for this reason. People why like the design of a game, but find the interface so unfriendly, it's what puts them off the game. Poor User Interface for wargames has been mentioned as off-putting by many people here. In terms of setup and usability, the Mac Studio is a breeze, starting from the clever eco-friendly packaging to the soft whoosh of its fans. It’s a great upgrade if you work in an environment like mine. The Nano-texture glass gives up a little bit of the sharp vibrant look you get with a glossy screen, but it’s worth the trade in usability, to be able to see the screen without distractions all day long. I have a bunch of windows in my home office at various times of day, using a glossy screen can be a battle. After using the Studio Display for three weeks, I’d say it’s so good it really gets out of the way. I don’t tend to focus much on displays as long as they do a good job and get out of the way. As spec’d, this is a $7999 system with all the bells and whistles, but a more modest $3999 system would lead to the same performance conclusions in this review.Īpple also sent along a $2299 Studio Display with Nano-texture glass ($300) and tilt/height adjustable stand ($400). This detailed computational framework with improved modeling techniques and an extensive validation procedure will be used in future CFD studies of centrifugal blood pumps to aid in device design and predictions of their biological responses.įood and Drug Administration centrifugal blood pump computational fluid dynamics hemolysis validation. These results suggest that the importance of accounting for blood's viscoelasticity may be dependent on the specific blood pump operating conditions. Small differences were observed between the Newtonian and viscoelastic blood models in pressure head and hemolysis at the higher flow rate cases (FDA Conditions 4 and 5) but were more significant at lower flow rate and pump impeller speeds (FDA Condition 1). While CFD radial velocity profiles between the impeller blades also compared well to the PIV velocity results, more work is still needed to address the large variability among both experimental and computational predictions of velocity in the diffuser outlet jet. The CFD simulations were able to match the FDA pressure and hemolysis data for multiple pump operating conditions, with the CFD results being within the standard deviations of the experimental results. The established computational framework, including a dynamic rotating mesh, animal blood-specific fluid properties and hemolysis modeling, and a k-ω SST turbulence model, was shown to more accurately predict pump pressure heads, velocity fields, and hemolysis compared to previously published CFD studies of the FDA centrifugal pump. A viscoelastic blood model was then incorporated into the CFD solver to investigate the importance of modeling blood's viscoelasticity in centrifugal pumps. A Newtonian blood model was first used to compare to the PIV data with a blood analog fluid while hemolysis data were compared using a power-law hemolysis model fit to porcine blood data. Therefore, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) benchmark centrifugal blood pump and its database of experimental PIV and hemolysis data were used to thoroughly validate CFD simulations of the same blood pump. They must also account for and accurately model the specific working fluid in the pump, whether that is a blood-analog solution to match an experimental PIV study or animal blood in a hemolysis experiment. In order to simulate hemodynamics within centrifugal blood pumps and to predict pump hemolysis, CFD simulations must be thoroughly validated against experimental data. Gid hanasheh meaning12/10/2023 It contains forbidden fats and the sciatic nerve, which can be difficult or impossible to remove. Animals such as cows, sheep, goats, and goats are kosher because they chew their cud. Whatever the reason, the gid hanasheh is considered to be a serious prohibition and those who violate it are subject to severe penalties, including excommunication from the Jewish community.Ĭan a Jewish people not eat cow? Jacob has been forbidden to fight with the Angel on the cow’s backside because he fought with him. Others believe that the prohibition is based on the fact that the sciatic nerve is a major blood vessel and eating it would be akin to eating blood, which is also prohibited in Judaism. While the reason for this prohibition is not entirely clear, some scholars believe it is due to the fact that the sciatic nerve is located in the hindquarters of the cow, which is considered to be the most unclean part of the animal. This law is derived from the biblical verse that states, “You shall not eat any detestable thing” (Deuteronomy 14:3). One of these laws is the prohibition against eating the sciatic nerve of a cow, which is known as the gid hanasheh. There is only one place where the lust is so strong that even great men are powerless-the gid hanasheh. In Judaism, there are many dietary laws that dictate what food is permissible to eat and how it should be prepared. The Zohar teaches us that in every struggle we are powerful, and can overcome our evil urges if we so desire. Here is an article proffering a reason for the concern Jews have about Gid hanasheh. The laws of prohibition regarding the gid hanasheh are found in Tractate Chullin (Hullin), chapter 7. It may not be eaten by Jews according to Halacha (Jewish Law). Gid hanasheh (Hebrew: גִּיד הַנָּשֶׁה), often translated as "displaced tendon," is the term for sciatic nerve in Judaism. Here is a Wikipedia article about Gid hanasheh, the name the Jews give to the tendon associated with Jacob's injury. These nerves are responsible for providing many of the anatomical changes associated with sexual response. This process can cause sciatica, but can also affect the viability of the lower sacral nerves, before they exit through their designated neuroforamen. The structural contributor to sciatica-related sexual dysfunction usually revolves around nerve compression of the cauda equina nerve roots in the central canal, due to spinal stenosis. Here is an article on sexual dysfunction associated with sciatica. He appears to have sustained neurological injury to his sciatic nerve as well as musculoskeletal damage to his hip. There is nothing more exhilarating than watching the fish breach the surface and destroy the bait. One of the most fun ways to catch bass is with topwater lures. Both are great lures to have on deck when the bass want to be aggressive and strike something moving. A lipless crankbait has a slightly different shape and has no bill on the front. There really aren’t any add-ons, but they can be used in a number of situations and paces to get results.Ĭrankbaits come in two main types: billed and lipless.Ī billed crankbait has a plastic bill on the front that drives it deep into the water column. That is one of the biggest selling points of a crankbait. This strategy will not work in all situations, so finding a rhythm and cadence that works with both you and the fish is key.
